World Cup 2018: 10 Most Dramatic Moments From The Group Stage

4. Kroos' Last-Minute Winner

All the drama and excitement around this goal ultimately proved to be worthless as Germany still crashed out of the tournament and finished rock bottom of their group, while Sweden recovered to take top place, but at the time, it was one of the most jaw-dropping moments of the entire World Cup.

Germany had lost their opening game and needed a win against Sweden to stay in the tournament. They started poorly, with Sweden's Ola Toivonen scoring the only goal of the first half, but managed to get back into the game after the break, with Marco Reus netting to even the match at 1-1. Later on in the half, German defender Jérôme Boateng was sent off and the Swedes seemed to be holding out for a historic draw.

And then up stepped Toni Kroos. Right at the very end of the game, Germany were given a free kick on the edge of the box. Kroos and Reus lined up, with Kroos tapping the ball to Reus, who set it up for his teammate to curl a beautiful, unstoppable strike around Swedish keeper Robin Olsen and into the net. It'll go down as one of the best World Cup goals of all time, even if it didn't really matter in the end.
