World Cup 2018: 10 Most Dramatic Moments From The Group Stage

2. The Ending Of Group B

The endings of some of the 2018 World Cup groups were a little anti-climactic, but Group B was simply filled with drama. Portugal and Spain both had four points and were expected to qualify. Not only that, but they were both expected to win their final group games against Iran and Morocco, respectively. The only question seemed to be how many goals they would each score and which team would manage to claim top spot.

In the end, both sides found themselves struggling against resilient opposition. Morocco took the lead against Spain, and Portugal struggled to break through Iran's tough defence. As the games drew to a close, Portugal were holding onto a narrow 1-0 lead and Morocco and Spain were tied at 1-1. Then Morocco scored and seemed set to claim a remarkable win, but Iago Aspas provided a stunning equaliser for Spain, which had to be checked by VAR before finally being granted.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo nearly got sent off for an off-the-ball elbow and Iran were given a controversial penalty in the dying seconds, which also had to be checked out by the VAR. It was a breathless finale for Group B and it was great to see Morocco and Iran putting up such good fights.
