World Cup 2018: 10 Most Dramatic Moments From The Group Stage

1. Germany Out

The number one slot on this list isn't just the most dramatic moment of the 2018 World Cup so far, it's also got to go down as one of the craziest World Cup moments of all time. Germany, the team that never seem to lose and always turn up for the big games, are out of the World Cup already, finishing bottom of their group and picking up just one win in three games.

Germany are normally so confident of progressing that they book their hotels for the latter stages of the tournament in advance, but on this occasion, they looked a shadow of their usual selves. Toni Kroos was one bright spark in an otherwise grim squad, but even he couldn't keep the team afloat.

Mesut Özil, Jérôme Boateng, Thomas Müller and many others are the sorts of players who can normally be relied upon to deliver for Germany, but they looked simply dreadful at this tournament. The Germans were lost and confused, lacking their usual creativity and ruthlessness as they slumped to defeats against Mexico and South Korea and only beat Sweden by the skin of their teeth. It looks like the curse of past winners going out in the group stage has struck again!
