World Cup 2018 Best XI (Heading Into Tournament)
7. Left Back - Marcelo (Brazil)
The modern full-back primarily an offensive position, and there's no greater proponent of that than Marcelo. He shone once again at club level this season and showed in the Champions League his abilities both in crossing with either foot and shooting. Also, his range of passing and overlapping runs are one of the main reasons why Real Madrid have, yet again, been a dominant force in Europe and overwhelmed opponents.
Granted, when it comes to defending there are question marks over his mentality and positioning. However, he gets the nod ahead of the likes of Jordi Alba due to his all-round game and the fact that the 30-year-old is the player most Brazilians want in the Brazil line-up. Think of who he's been chosen ahead of for that.
