19 Things We Learned From Steve McClaren's BBC Radio Newcastle Interview

14. Steve Will Be The Voice Of Newcastle United

"I remember in Germany, I'm going for my first interview after a game and they're kind of saying you have to wait until the sporting director has had his, and he was in the press more than I was. And I always believe one message should come out of the club and that should be the manager, or the head coach, somebody in charge of the team and I think that's what they believe in. "When you've got the business side of things sure the owner can come out one the business side of things, sure the chief exec can come out. "I've had the other side of it when the owner or chief exec have been so vocal and want to be part of the process, and they get in the way and then you cause controversy. Whereas what this club wants, from my understanding and from my working relationship so far with Lee Charnley, has been fantastic. 'Steve, we want one voice coming out and that one voice is yours.'"
Let's hope this is the case and Steve isn't being told what the say, while another thing is going on behind the scenes. One voice, and one voice that speaks nothing but the truth is what Newcastle fans need to hear. The transparency the club have offered their supporters so far this summer has been brilliantly refreshing, but will mean nothing if they are being as deceitful as they were perceived to be at times during Alan Pardew's reign.
