10 Amazing TV Shows That Became Unwatchable

5. American Horror Story

For a TV show to stand out against the countless other options at the end of viewers' fingertips, there has to be something different. Something unique. American Horror Story found its niche quickly, and it did it very, very well.

With each season telling a different story, with different characters in a new setting every time (with the exception of a handful of crossovers), while using many of the same actors, the anthology concept worked. The stories themselves were creepy, gruesome, and fascinating, and when the cast included the likes of Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Jessica Lange, it's no wonder they were brought back every year.

Things started to go downhill when that oh so reliable cast began to disappear. Lange has been absent since season four, barring a cameo in season eight, while Peters and Paulson have been far from the mainstays they were in the earlier days. In their place, American Horror Story has seemingly relied on casting people for their names rather than their fit for the show.

As well as the quality of the cast leaving more to be desired, the stories went the same route. Hell, for season ten, Double Feature, the main story didn't even stretch to ten episodes, so there was a completely different story for the final four. Lightning was caught in a bottle for the first few years of AHS, but it hasn't gotten close since.
