10 Amazing TV Shows That Became Unwatchable

3. Futurama

How I Met Your Mother
Fox

If you think of a TV series as having nine lives, then Futurama is currently on its ninth. Maybe even its tenth. Originally cancelled in 2004, the show was revived for four straight-to-DVD movies before being cancelled again, revived on Comedy Central, cancelled again, and revived again.

This thing has been killed more times than Family Guy, but it seems that no matter how many times Matt Groening's second hit gets knocked down, it keeps getting back up. However, maybe it's time to stay down.

Futurama's first run was genuinely outstanding, and had it stayed as it was, finishing with Fry (Billy West) and Leela (Katey Sagal) walking off into the distance in a perfect ending, its legacy would have remained untarnished. With each new run, though, things get worse, and there are fewer good episodes.

Granted, there are still some great outings in the later seasons, with Meanwhile, Game of Tones, and the Late Philip J. Fry being particular highlights. That said, for the most part, these years have seen the show suffer from poor writing that forgets about some of the key established points of the future, lame takes on things that happened 1,000 years in the past like crypto-currency, the emergence of streaming, and amazon.com.

The unfortunate truth is that, much like The Simpsons, Futurama is now far enough past its prime that it should just end.
