The Walking Dead earned a reputation as more than just a part-survival-horror/part-zombie-snuff show. The show was just as much about the survivors coping with the new world as it was about them killing zombies at every step of the way. After a tremendous first season, the show creatively lost steam for many seasons, bottoming out with a horrible third season that put way too much emphasis on awful characters like Andrea. It led to the dismissal of showrunner Glenn Mazzara. Starting with Season 4, under the direction of showrunner Scott Gimple, The Walking Dead has picked up steam creatively, and while it's not quite at the quality that the ratings seem to suggest, Season 6 so far is a marked improvement over the poor seasons 2 and 3. Season 6 featured a mystery that fans waited for multiple episodes to figure out the resolution.
