1. Taylor Schilling (Piper - Orange Is The New Black)
The surprise smash hit of 2013 has been the prison-based Netflix original series Orange is the New Black. Every member of the show's largely female cast deserve praise for portraying characters that, over the course of the show, make you feel more or less every emotion possible. However special mention has to go to Taylor Schilling who plays the show's lead character Piper Chapman who finds herself in prison due to a drug-smuggling she participated in almost ten years earlier, only to find herself locked up with the exact woman who'd landed her in prison in the first place. Schilling's performance as Piper is, at times, perfect. Whether she is putting on a brave face for her family or falling to pieces in private, you believe every word that comes out of her mouth and never stop feeling for Piper across the entire season which ends on such a dramatic cliffhanger we could barely believe it as the screen faded to black.
