Think of this one like a mix of The Thing and The Exorcist.

In the near-future, India has become an authoritarian police state. Nida, a new military officer, is assigned to assist in the "interrogation" of an infamous terrorist inside a secret government facility. As the night proceeds, she and the rest of the torture crew come to find out that if they want to survive, they'll have to work together to combat an evil not of this world.

While Ghoul is undeniably terrifying, where it mainly shines is in its commentary. The theme of humans being the real monsters has been done to death in media, but the way this series in particular goes about it keeps it not only fresh, but thought-provoking as well. By comparing the blind allegiance that comes with nationalism to an all-devouring monster with a one-track mind, the show effectively makes you reflect upon what the word "monster" even means to begin with.

Are the real monsters the ones we create? Or are they the the ones created out of us? Ghoul never lets you off with an easy answer, making for an experience as intellectually fulfilling as it is frightening.
