10 Best Performances In Better Call Saul
5. Jonathan Banks - Mike Ehrmantraut
Jonathan Banks has one of the hardest jobs of any actor on Better Call Saul, because he's playing a haunted, kindly grandfather who evolves into an assassin in a desperate, violent bid to provide for his family.
What's remarkable about Banks' performance is that, whilst there is no mistaking just how vicious and even downright cold he can be, Saul's version of Mike still has some morals that he doesn't want to compromise. He may be tough as all hell, but his heart is still in the right place despite the nature of his new life.
Stern and eerily calm, Banks sells Mike for every ounce of his evolution from parking attendant to enforcer, and does it with such humanity he never loses his remaining goodness even as his life grows dark around him.
Much like he did on Breaking Bad, Banks steals the show on Better Call Saul, putting everyone in their place even as his own world unravels. Watching his fate in Breaking Bad is now all the more poignant.
