10 Biggest TV Disappointments Of 2016
9. The Sloppiness Of The New X-Files
They say time heals all wounds, so when season ten of The X-Files was announced people couldn’t help being excited, forgetting that the final seasons of the show were a bit crap. Still, it was good to see Mulder and Scully back, with both Anderson and Duchovny still having the chemistry needed to make it work.
Unfortunately, they didn’t have the best material to work from; the opening and closing episodes were a horrible mess of convoluted conspiracy theories and stilted drama. The monster of the week episodes didn’t work either, given that the show had done similar stories back in the day, and executed them much better. Poor Skinner barely got any scenes either.
Surprisingly the Were-Monster episode was the only one that worked, despite the insane premise and over the top execution. Even with only six episodes this season outstayed its welcome, and despite a cliffhanger ending it’s hard to get jazzed about more.
