10 Completely Insulting TV Plot Twists
1. The Ending - How I Met Your Mother
If the words "How I Met Your Mother" inspire a deep-seated rage within you, then you're probably one of many that followed the show from its beginning, only for it to end in tatters.
For nine years, the show had been a build-up to the meeting between Ted and titular Mother (revealed to be named Tracy McConnell). For most of those years, Ted Mosby and Robin Scherbatsky were shown as romantically incompatible. And for the entire final season, Ted learned to let go of Robin and allow her to get married to Barney Stinson, with the focus of said final season being entirely on Barney and Robin's wedding.
All of this was undone in a montage.
Robin and Barney get divorced, Tracy dies, and Ted and Robin get back together.
Some plot twists are a slap in the face. Some plot twists happen at the very end of the series. This one was both, except if Conor McGregor was the one doing the slapping.
In an instant, the creators showed not only a massive amount of disrespect for their longtime fans, but a fundamental lack of understanding on what it is they wanted. Ted and Robin's reunion is treated as a happy ending, but fans had moved on in the literal seven years since they were an official couple. Ted and Tracy. Barney and Robin. It was so simple.
Do yourself a favor and treat the alternate ending as canon.
