10 Doctor Who Characters Who Would Make A Great Prime Minister

4. Ian Chesterton

Should such a thing exist as a Doctor Who-based polling station, and the assembled throng are there looking for a good all-rounder for whom to cast their vote, the biggest pile of slips could well amass for Ian Chesterton. An idealist but also a natural leader, he's almost the dream ticket for an election victory. He has the mind of Ken Barlow and the passion of Richard the Lionheart. He's as British as a pasty on top of the Crown Jewels. His background is in education, so that would be top of his list of priorities. He'd probably want to overhaul the syllabus, taking it away from media studies and all that "down with the kids" psychology, and shifting it more towards history, talking about the likes of Marco Polo as if he'd met the man, and giving strangely authentic insights into the Roman Empire. Context is this campaigner's watch word, urging the public to learn the lessons of the past, and issuing prescient warnings about the future. An 'X' for Chesteron would no doubt mean placing your allegiances squarely on the left. Not a bad thing, but liable to split people down the middle. If Ian is a Guardian-reading Socialist, who is his opposite? Who combines the dual qualities of handsome features and impressive oration, yet happens to be a true blue Conservative? The answer lies in our next choice...
