10 Doctor Who Easter Eggs Hidden In Plain Sight

6. The Cybermen Walk Out Of Their Pods

Neil Gaimon's Nightmare In Silver was, unfortunately, the weaker of the two episodes that he has written for Doctor Who, after his incredible The Doctor's Wife from the previous season. In this outing, a new and upgraded version of one of the Doctor's greatest enemies, the Cybermen, make their return to the show.

While the Cybermen had debuted all the way back with the First Doctor in William Hartnell's final story, The Tenth Planet, this easter egg relates to a story that featured Patrick Troughton. The Tomb of the Cybermen sees the Doctor, Jamie and Victoria encounter an upgraded version of the evil robots with a now-iconic waking scene. They slowly punch their way through plastic sheeting, emerging from a vertical tomb that is adorned with semi-circular ornamentation.

In Nightmare In Silver, as the Cybermen awake under the castle, they emerge from stasis chambers that are almost identical in looks to the earlier incarnation. While the villains themselves may bear little resemblance to the earlier Mondasian versions, they do at least have a sense of continuity about them!
