10 Doctor Who Spin Offs That Are Just Waiting To Happen
9. The Jo Grant Jones Adventures
OK, maybe that title is somewhat of a rehash, but of all the former Doctor Who companions who deserve a crack at fronting their very own spin off, Jo Grant is definitely one of them. First appearing alongside Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor in the 1971 serial Terror of the Autons, Jo was assigned as the Time Lord's new coveted companion and throughout her time in the TARDIS viewers watched her mature from a clumsy and ditsy junior UNIT civilian operative into a brave, ambitious and, most of all, devoted ally. That's what spending time with the Doctor does to you! After falling in love with the Nobel-prize winning scientist Professor Clifford Jones, Jo opted to marry him and stay on Earth to accompany him on his environmentalist expedition to the Amazon. She had seen the wonders of time and space and now she wanted to enjoy the wonders of her own planet, but she got to see the Doctor again in 2010 when she returned to our screens in The Sarah Jane Adventures. It was a joyous moment for fans young and old to see two of the Doctor's beloved companions together on screen and it was proof that Jo is still a fully formed character with a knack for adventure. That's hugely down to Katy Manning's wonderful portrayal and, as she joined forces with Sarah Jane to overthrow the Shansheeth, she slipped back into Jo's shoes effortlessly and it truly felt like she had never been away. With the sad loss of Elisabeth Sladen in 2011 and the subsequent cancellation of The Sarah Jane Adventures, there's currently a distinct lack of Classic Doctor Who on our screens. Not many could follow in the footsteps of Elisabeth Sladen, but the majority of fans would agree that Katy would be more than up for the task. Jo has got seven kids too. Oh, think of the subplots.
