10 Doctor Who Storylines That Were Suddenly Abandoned

9. Who Are The Alternate Doctors In The Brain Of Morbius?

William Hartnell is the First Doctor; that is canon. His Doctor fled Gallifrey with his granddaughter Susan many hundreds of years ago and then travelled - and regenerated - through Time And Space until Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor / thirteenth incarnation met his end at Trenzalore. But there was another theory; Hartnell's Doctor was just the latest in a long line of Doctor's. In the Brain Of Morbius, the Fourth Doctor Doctor becomes locked in a mental battle with the Timelord villain Morbius, resulting in several incarnations of the Doctor appearing on the monitor. Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee are all there, but so are eight others, all played by members of the Doctor Who production team. This immediately suggested that Hartnell was not the first Doctor, just the first Doctor audiences had seen on screen. This tease of past Doctors was never revisited and indeed has never been referred to since to the canon of the show, making it a curious piece of storytelling that was abandoned and never mentioned again.
