10 Exact TV Moments That Made Fans Rage Quit

4. Mulder's Disappearance - The X-Files: Season Eight

The Walking Dead Negan
Fox

A show rarely lasts long once the main character leaves, since they’re part of the reason viewers invest in it. The X-Files was all about the Mulder and Scully relationship, so one of the actors leaving was always going to leave a big vortex.

That’s exactly what happened when David Duchovny decided to leave, partly because of a contract dispute and partly because he wanted to pursue movies. This meant a new partner for Scully in the form of John Doggett, who is investigating Mulder's disappearance, and while Robert Patrick did a solid job there was no replacing Duchovny. Mulder made some cameos throughout the season, but once he left some fans instantly switched off for good.

The show didn’t last much longer, calling it a day at the end of season nine. A recent revival series with both Mulder and Scully back in action was well received;sadly, no one seemed to miss Doggett.
