10 Forgotten Horror TV Shows You MUST Watch
5. Monsterland
Consisting of eight episodes that were released in October 2020 on Hulu, Monsterland is a horror anthology series inspired by Nathan Ballingrud's short story collection North American Lake Monsters: Stories. It starred the likes of Kaitlyn Dever, Kelly Marie Tran, Mike Colter and Nicole Beharie, the horror series was developed by The Neon Demon and Succession writer Mary Laws.
While not as structurally sound as some of the horror anthologies on this list, Monsterland was still able to be an engaging yet bleak exploration of how factors such as systemic failings, harmful ideologies, and hyper-individualistic thinking can bring out the worst in people.
This approach, coupled with the connection of the monsters to the themes in each episode, might leave some episodes feeling rather heavy-handed but a solid cast, effects work and direction ties things together in a satisfying, if not fully cohesive package.
Its miniseries format plus time of release meant that it came and went without much fanfare but it still works as an entry level horror series for fans new to the genre.
