10 Funniest Curb Your Enthusiasm Episodes

5. The Survivor (Season 4, Episode 9)

"We survived!"

One of the series' more controversial episodes, The Survivor was released at a time when the CBS game show Survivor had reached the peak of its popularity. It asks a ludicrous question no one really wanted: who has suffered more between a Survivor contestant and a survivor of the Holocaust? A terrible misunderstanding leads to former contestant, Colby Davidson getting into a heated debate with a Holocaust survivor, Solly over who endured the nastier ordeal. It's as ridiculous and uncomfortable as it sounds.

The episode's a laugh a minute with additional plotlines involving Larry and Cheryl's suitably abysmal vow renewal ceremony and Larry's cumbersome crack at having an extra-marital fling with Hassidic dry cleaner Anna (Gina Gershon on very funny form). Meditations on society's fascination with tragedies and suffering make this one of the series' more layered and thoughtful instalments. The dialogue regarding 9/11 between Larry and his rabbi is appropriately cringe-worthy without ever being truly distasteful either. It's the perfect set-up for an episode that captures everything viewers have come to love about the series' relentless mode of laughter.
