Rick was never comfortable about the fact that his best friend Bird Person was getting married. After his own less-than-successful run as a husband and father, the genius scientist holds very little regard for the concept of wedded bliss.

After some prompting from Beth, however, the family is off to Planet Squanch to see Bird Person and Tammy tie the knot. As best man, Rick is asked to do the traditional speech.

It goes about as well as you would expect.

Rick starts by consulting his notes, which he literally follows, including 'trail off' and 'crumple up notes.' He then transitions into a diatribe about how awful marriage is and how if a genius like him couldn't make it work, then it's barely worth trying. He follows this sentiment by reminding the assembled crowd that ultimately we all die alone and that marriage is simply an attempt to ward this inevitability off.

Turprisingly, he turns it around and ends with a heartfelt confirmation that if Bird Person loves Tammy, then he is willing to love her too, and from then on will be more open to others.

Then, within seconds, Tammy is revealed as a Galactic Federation agent and the whole wedding devolves into a violent brawl.

Rick can never have nice things.
