5. Barristan Selmy

Bad. Ass. Barristan. Selmy was never going to sit upon the Iron Throne, nor was he going to rule over reaching lands, or settle into a holdfast and retire as a lord. However, if any man in the Seven Kingdoms and beyond stood a chance of single-handedly hacking his way into the Red Keep, Barristan Selmy is that man. When he was relieved of his duties, Barristan's line: "Even now I could cut through the five of you like carving a cake," was sensational, mostly because everyone in the hall knew he probably could. His death scene was proof of his powerful fighting skills, but their were simply too many Sons of the Harpy and after 14 corpses lay at his feet, Selmy was finally taken down. Daenerys' council room needed a Barristan in it, a respected figure throughout Westeros. His role was extended in the books, but he was cut short in the show despite having plenty left in the tank.
