10 Great TV Shows With An Even Better Soundtrack
1. The O.C.
As literally anyone on the planet will attest to, teen angst and music go hand in hand.
Nowhere is this sentiment more robustly expressed than in the quintessential '00s teen drama, The O.C.
The O.C. ran for only four short seasons, but its lasting popularity is a testament to its quality.
Its large ensemble cast and delicate balance of drama, romance and comedy make for excellent viewing, but ultimately, without one key element, The O.C. would have simply become lost in the crowd of uninspired teen dramas. That is to say, The O.C. was made great by its soundtrack.
The show's creator, Josh Schwartz, worked closely with music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas to select the music used in the show, and their loving (and expansively varied) choices make for outstanding listening.
The use of Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" and Youth Group's cover of "Forever Young" led to both artists seeing a huge boom in sales, and bands like Death Cab for Cutie, The Subways and Modest Mouse all made on-screen appearances.
The O.C.'s soundtrack is by far one of the best to ever grace the small screen, and it's well worth a watch (or a listen).
