10 Horror TV Shows That Got Cancelled After Just One Season

From Barbatos to Gentleman Ghost to King of the Vampires, DC has its fair share of villains who dabble in the supernatural and things that go bump in the night. But like all good comic book stories, there have been some fair share of heroes to protect the defenceless from demonic nightmares, and one such hero is John Constantine.

Adapted from the pages of the Hellblazer comic, Constantine is a former demon hunter who chooses to be dragged back into the world of the supernatural and otherworldly after his best friend's daughter becomes targeted by some dangerous ghouls. Dealing with his own personal dilemma involving his damned soul and protecting her, the pair travel across the country to send demons back to the underworld.

John may have been able to save some souls from eternal pain and punishment, but he just couldn't save his own series, despite having a dedicated fanbase. Because it was airing after Grimm to entice audiences to watch more of the dark fantasy shows that NBC was producing, the network hoped for success for both of them. Despite having steady viewership, Constantine just couldn't reach the same level of successful ratings as the pilot achieved, and eventually the series was scrapped.

However, Matt Ryan, the actor who played the title character, would reprise his role throughout the Arrowverse and some entries in the DC Animated Universe. John may not have gotten a second season, but this was the next best thing.
