10 Huge Misconceptions About Doctor Who

3. William Hartnell Was An Old Man

The First Doctor was the grumpiest. The grandfather, the anti-hero, the one that had to warm up, but eventually regenerated thanks to old age. But William Hartnell was only 55. It's even more surprising when you consider that David Bradley, the actor who played him in 'An Adventure in Space and Time', is 71. Peter Capaldi's 55 too, only a few months younger than Hartnell was when he took the role of the Doctor; Hartnell did wear a white wig though, which aged him. We assume there's such a chasm in age difference between Hartnell and Capaldi, or Pertwee even, but the First Doctor really wasn't that old. Timey-wimey indeed.
