10 Incredibly Subtle Jokes From The Simpsons You Might Have Missed

1. Sneed's Feed & Seed ('E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt'))

When Homer's run-in with a Southern colonel forces the Simpsons out of town and into hiding, they begin a new life on Grampa's old farmhouse, growing the dangerously addictive hybrid 'tomacco' seeds. But in an episode crammed with radioactive tomatoes and drug-addled cows, it is this brief exterior shot of Sneed's, their new local convenience store, that well and truly steals the show. Ever since the episode first aired in 1999, the above sign has divided viewers into two opposing camps: those who can't believe that such a dirty joke managed to worm its way into a so-called family show, and those who have no idea what all the fuss is about. What with it being a Simpsons sign, there has to be a joke in there somewhere. And there is - it's just hiding in plain sight. You see, Sneed, Feed and Seed all rhyme.
