10 Most Tearjerking Game Of Thrones Moments
3. "Hold The Door."
George R.R. Martin clearly likes to play a long game, because there’s no way the reveal of Hodor’s name wasn’t planned well in advance. Hodor (aka Wylis) is a gentle giant and servant to the Stark family, and he quickly became a fan favourite despite his limited conversation.
He’s generally a happy fellow and his friendship with Bran provided some of the sweeter moments on the show. Since he made it all the way to season six his future seemed relatively secure; this is Game Of Thrones, though, so we can't have nice things.
While helping Bran escape from a horde of White Walker's he’s ordered to hold a door so Meera and Bran can escape, and Bran's vision of the past he accidentally warged into the young Wylis, which was the cause of his disability. The young man yells out “hold the door”, which gradually morphs into "Hodor" while he sees a vision of his own death in the future.
He holds the door in the present while the undead rip and tear at him, and the hearts of a million fans gradually break while watching his sacrifice.
