10 Most Underrated TV Shows Of 2018 (So Far)

Bill Hader shines in this HBO tragicomedy, which he also co-created with Alex Berg. The eight-part series centres on the story of Barry Berkman (Hader), a Midwestern hitman who travels to Los Angeles for a job, but when it turns out that his target is taking theatre classes, Barry discovers he also has a passion for acting. He signs up to the theatre classes, pursuing his dream, while trying to leave his old life behind - which proves difficult.

HBO comedies can be hit and miss, but - much like the show's protagonist - Barry hits the target. Perhaps the thing that makes it so special is that, while it is a comedy, there is also a dramatic story at its core. The writing is top notch and the dark humour throughout is truly brilliant. Hader and co-star Sarah Goldberg also have wonderful on-screen chemistry, and the series features a standout performance from Gotham star Anthony Carrigan.

In spite of its greatness, the HBO comedy hasn't received much attention, but with a second season on the way, let's hope Barry gets the recognition it deserves in the future.
