10 One-Time Saturday Night Live Hosts Who Should Host Again
6. Neil Patrick Harris
Hosted: January 10, 2009 Fred Savage hosted Saturday Night Live in 1990 while a youngster, stemming from his role as "Kevin Arnold" on ABC's The Wonder Years; in 1991, a young Macaulay Culkin hosted after the wildly successful Home Alone. Why Neil Patrick Harris wasn't pegged to host at any point from 1989 to 1993 after his turn as child prodigy-turned-doctor Doogie Howser, M.D. the world may never know. Instead, fans of Doogie had to wait until 2009 to see the former kid doctor on SNL; but the SNL Digital Short of Harris playing the Doogie Howser theme on a piano as cast member after cast member appeared in Doogie-Howser attire to accompany him- ending with a tear rolling down "Doogie's" cheek- made the wait worthwhile. How long will fans have to wait to see the former "Barney Stinson" (How I Met Your Mother) return to 30 Rock? He has a new film - a mystery thriller called Gone Girl- coming out this October, and is lending his voice to Pixar's 2015 release The Good Dinosaur. But the multi-talented Harris just won the Tony's 2014 Best Actor Award for his Broadway performance in Hedwig and the Angry Itch. Frankly, any time is a good time for NPH to return to SNL.
