10 Reasons Disney Plus Will Dominate Netflix

5. ESPN & Hulu Bundle

Adding Hulu to the pile might not be a huge draw, but it at least takes out one of the competition. A small and largely ineffective opponent maybe, but an opponent nonetheless.

Disney snagging Hulu is reminiscent of Bill Gates ‘buying out’ CompuGloboHyperMegaNet in another now-Disney property, The Simpsons. However, with ESPN on board, it could genuinely be the dawn of a new era for television.

Outside of the USA, ESPN’s relevance might not seem immediately relevant, but they actually operate TV stations in the Caribbean, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, Japan and India, as well as neighbouring countries who watch the same sports leagues.

In the UK, they have connections to BT Sport, the only significant rival to Sky Sports. For all the debate about too many streaming options making everything like paid TV again, a lot of people still keep paid TV around as well.

It’s not hard to imagine that must watch entertainment shows will all eventually move online, but what about live sports? Up until now, they’ve always been a separate entity.

With ESPN on board, Disney may just have future-proofed their platform.
