10 Reasons Star Wars Fans NEED To Watch Rebels
6. New Characters, Whose Fates Are Undecided
Whilst Rebels brings about the return of many fan favourite characters, the main six characters are all completely original. The issue with going back in time and using characters who we know must survive the series to make it to the original trilogy is that you lower the stakes, which is what Rebels avoids.
The Ghost crew of Kanan, Hera, Sabine, Zeb, Chopper and new recruit Ezra all offer a range of skills and character to the series. Exploring all their different back stories across the course of the series is definitely one of the shows greatest qualities, with all of them growing over the four seasons.
Whilst they may fill certain Star Wars character types, such as ace pilot, young Jedi and strong hairy companion, all the characters themselves are completely original, so their destiny is undecided.
Prequel stories mean that if you reuse a character, you cannot alter their fate, so their can be less tension. But with Rebels we have never seen or heard of these characters, so who knows what could happen to them.
I won't reveal what happens to these characters, but the series definitely ties up nicely, and moves seamlessly into the original trilogy and beyond.
