10 Reasons Why The Boys Was Better As A TV Series

8. The Show Takes On Modern Issues

It's safe to say the world of 2019 is very different from the world of 2006. We have iPhones, a range of streaming platforms and a constant source of dread as our planet burns us alive and we all slowly choke ourselves to death. These changes (and more!) have affected the story of The Boys to its core.

The Boys uses this change in time setting to comment on the state of world, focusing on religious figures (as seen in the public anti-LGBTQ stance of Ezekiel), female sexualisation (with Starlight's new costume) and over-marketing (with Vought International's attitude to merchandising their heroes).

Beats such as Starlight speaking out on the sexual assault and sexism she faces at the hands of the Seven and the Deep's abhorrence of "Ocean-World" and subsequent dolphin-napping are very reminiscent of real life phenomenon such the #MeToo movement and the Blackfish Seaworld scandal.

Focusing on these issues allows The Boys to be more satirical towards the modern world, rather than just the super-hero comics the original series poked fun at, providing a wider scope and allowing future series to look into more current day issues with their own, unique perspective.
