6. Sophomore Slump? Not So Much...

Since returning for its second season this past September, Once has only improved its style, storytelling, and focus. The first season is in many ways a slow burn: a steady exercise in character and universe-building. Individual episodes were more often than not just that €“ individual introductions of characters, featuring their (largely) self-contained backstories. By the season€™s conclusion, however, those stories became intricately connected to one another, often in subtle and unexpected ways. With the premiere of Season Two, storylines have become tighter and more streamlined, featuring major characters and bit players alike in key mythology arcs.
