9. Freema Agyeman - Survivors

Freema Agyeman's portrayal of the Tenth Doctor's companion Martha Jones made her a household name in the UK and the world was pretty much her oyster when she eventually decided to call it a day after... erm, just one series. That's all she needed to establish herself as a formidable on screen force to be reckoned with, though, after fighting off the likes of Daleks, the Master and, perhaps most impressively, the overbearing shadow of her ever persistent predecessor (seriously, Rose Tyler might as well have been in Series 3, the amount of time the Doctor spent harping on about her!). Although they were sad to see Martha go, Freema's legion of new followers predicted that she would go on to achieve bigger and better things and they didn't have long to wait to see what wonders the post-Who world would have to offer. So... what the hell happened? After securing a role in an adaptation of Charles Dickens' Little Dorrit, the actress seemingly landed her second big break when she was cast in the BBC's new post-apocalyptic blockbuster Survivors. Unfortunately, survive she did not, as her character, Jenny Walsh, died at the end of the first episode. Damn. The series itself lots its momentous fairly quickly, too, and it was subsequently axed due to dwindling ratings.
