10 Roles Doctor Who Actors Wish They'd Turned Down
6. Karen Gillan - Oculus
Karen's been ticking off all the boxes since she left Doctor Who back in 2012. An indie romcom honouring her Scottish roots? Check. Helming her own US sitcom which was ultimately axed halfway through its first season? Check. Shaving off her hair for her portrayal of a malevolent Marvel mercenary? Check. Being possessed by a haunted mirror and eating a lightbulb? Ch- Wait... What?! Yep, you can say what you like about Karen Gillan but you can't deny her versatility. And it's not like there's anything bad or wrong with Oculus per se (it was actually recieved extremely well by critics and fans) but some of the stuff she had to do it in it isn't exactly easy to forget. It's a psychological supernatural horror, of course, so it was always going to be pretty out there, so much so that at one point her character, Kaylie Russell, eats a lightbulb which sounds ridiculous when you put it like that. It actually makes perfect sense within the context of the narrative, though, but it no doubt left a bitter taste in Karen's mouth. You might want to exclude this one from your showreel, Kaz.
