10 Sci-Fi TV Shows We'll Be Glued To This Year

8. Upload

Upload starts with Nathan choosing between going into life-saving surgery and spending a good long life with his very annoying girlfriend, or having his consciousness uploaded into a cloud-based afterlife. If the title doesn't make it clear, he chooses the afterlife... and I think we've all been in relationships like that.

Newly dead Nathan is welcomed to the afterlife by Nora, and the show follows the two as they explore and get used to their new conditions. Seemingly idyllic upon entry, this afterlife soon shows that it's far from paradise.

In-app purchases mean that those residing there need to get a job, and things that barely make sense in the real world (buffets stopping serving food at specific times) have been brought over to help residents settle in, but only add to the annoyance factor. That's not to mention things like literal therapy dogs as the avatars for therapists talking to the characters from the outside.

From Greg Daniels, who adapted the US version of The Office and created Parks & Recreation, Upload looks like it's going to offer plenty of scope for ridiculous yet brilliantly fun science-fiction comedy.

After hearing that you are what you eat, Mik took a good hard look at his diet and realised he might just be a szechuan spare rib alongside prawn fried rice.
