10 Simpsons Theories That Make Too Much Sense To Ignore

5. Barney Gumble Is Nelson Muntz From The Future

There have been so many characters introduced in The Simpsons over its three decades that some were bound to look a little similar, but the resemblance between Barney Gumble and Nelson Muntz is quite striking. Neither are the most handsome men in the world, and they wear almost identical clothes in identical colours. What if they are actually the same person?

Nelson, always the bully and never one to pay attention in school, never amounted to anything, and grew up to be a loser. Unhappy with how his life turned out, Nelson would convince Professor Frink to send him back in time.

The show has dabbled with time travel a few times through Frink, so a grown up Nelson coming back in time wouldn't be the craziest thing we've ever seen in Springfield.

Taking the alias of Barney Gumble, Nelson travelled back in time with every intention of stopping his younger self from taking the path he was quickly finding, but instead stumbled into Moe's bar and promptly forgot his entire mission, living a new life as Barney and leaving the young Nelson to unwittingly follow in his footsteps.
