10 Surprising Things Leonard Nimoy Did

7. He Was An Accomplished Photographer Too

Leonard Nimoy also loved photography, and he used this skill to provide the illustrations for his books of poetry. By 2002, he felt confident enough to release a book focusing on his photography, Shekhina. This book presented images centered around the theme of the feminine aspect of God, as interpreted through his Jewish faith. The black-and-white photographs of nude and semi-nude women in this collection were regarded by some Orthodox Jewish leaders as heretical. Nimoy responded robustly that his works were entirely consistent with the Kabbalah.

Nimoy also enjoyed success with exhibitions at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. A 2010 show there showed photographs of people acting out their "secret selves." In an interview about this exhibition, he commented wryly:

So many people have said that the project has made them wonder about whether they have a secret self, and inevitably some of them ask about my secret self. Are you kidding? I€™ve had 60 years of acting out my other selves. Been there, done that.
