There's a particular episode of The Big Bang Theory in which Sheldon Cooper's astrophysicist friend Raj Koothrappali (played by the brilliant British Indian actor Kunal Nayyar) somewhat inadvertently discovers a planetary object beyond the Kuiper belt, 2008 NQ17, which he named "Planet Bollywood". As a result of this discovery - considered a major achievement in the world of astrophysics - Raj was included in People magazine's "30 (Visionaries) Under 30 (Years of Age) to Watch". It also earned him a larger office in the university that he and the other characters work in and he became a celebrity of sorts. His behaviour afterwards prompted his friends to become annoyed at him, but they all tried to act proud and supportive - apart from Sheldon, who typically didn't see what all the fuss was about. As a result, he was encouraged to at least pretend to be happy for Raj, which resulted in him demonstrating a rather peculiar and creepy-looking fake smile - a smile that was invented by Jim Parsons himself. With the script simply instructing Parsons to do an "unpleasant smile", he came up with the brilliant monstrosity that everyone now finds hilarious.
