10 Things We Learned From The Star Trek Voyager Cast Reunion

2. Kate Mulgrew Is No Fan Of Season One

The hosts asked the cast if there was anything they would go back and change about the show. Mulgrew neither held back nor waited to answer.

She isn't a fan of season one. Although she says that there are many good moments, the show had a rushed and nervous feel to it, according to her. She blames this on herself, ever the professional.

She feels that as the show progressed, she got more and more comfortable playing Janeway, settling into a stronger rhythm than she had at the beginning. There are of course factors to this.

She came in after the rest of the cast, replacing Bujold and having to rush through filming much of the pilot. With this, she definitely was forced to hit the ground running and, at least from the viewers perspective, did a fantastic job with what she could.

The first season was also considerably shorter than those of either the Next Generation or Deep Space Nine. Several episodes that had been due to be included in season one were held over into season two, which only added to Mulgrew's dismay over the early performances.

Voyager, much like any show, only managed to pick up the pace and settle into gear as it went along. So, if Mulgrew were given her wish and she could go back and re-film much of the first season, it is clear that a very different Captain Janeway would be facing off against the Caretaker.
