10 Things We Want To See On The X-Files: Albuquerque
4. The Return of Morris Fletcher
Spinal Tap's Michael McKean was recently spotted singing The X-Files theme in a cast reunion. Yes, singing the theme (lyrics were created for the show's iconic thematic music just for the occasion, with proceeds going to charity).
If you're fuzzy on that connection, you might recall that McKean portrayed Man in Black Morris Fletcher in a handful of X-Files episodes during the show's original run, mainly in the season six two-parter Dreamland I & II.
While you might picture a man in black as dourly and mysterious, McKean's comedic chops led to Fletcher being more akin to the lovechild of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. If said love child was grown up, stuck in a failing marriage with kids who hated him, and a job that, while sounding cool, just has too much paperwork.
Fletcher and Mulder's body swap in the show's sixth season led to some fantastic moments, including David Duchovny and McKean have a little choreographed dance routine in front of a mirror. In their underwear.
With all this in mind, The X-Files: Albuquerque needs a bad guy. A villain, but not a terribly violent or dastardly one. This is a comedy, right? If there's going to be a recurring character along the lines of The Smoking Man, but less prone to commit murder, then Morris Fletcher might just be the perfect fit.
