10 Things You Didn't Know About Matt Smith

5. 'Versatility' Is His Middle Name

OK, it's actually 'Robert', but it might as well be 'Versatility'. Matt has firmly established himself as a formidable on screen force to be reckoned with and you only have to take a glance at his reputable résumé to see that each of his roles is in a completely different league than the last. It all began in the BBC's adaptations of Philip Pullman's The Ruby in the Smoke and The Shadow in the North, in which Matt starred as the loveable Cockney ragamuffin Jim Taylor (more on that later!), and then he returned to our screens as the unashamed politics geek, Danny Foster, in Party Animals. Next up, he became an overnight sensation as he stepped aboard the TARDIS as the Eleventh Doctor (and you all know what happened next!) but he's never been in any danger of being typecast in his iconic role as TV's favourite Time Lord. His other lauded screen roles have included a gay author (Christopher Isherwood in Christopher and his Kind), one of Britain's most celebrated rowers (Bert Bushnell in Bert and Dickie) and he's about to be seen in the upcoming Terminator film, Genisys, in a currently undisclosed role. See? Versatile. Oh, and he also played a clone in a short film once (above), just in case you needed further proof. Is there anything he can't do?! And his next rumoured role might just be his biggest post-Who gig yet...
