10 Times Doctor Who Became The Weirdest Drama On TV
6. The Twin Dilemma
What a surprise Colin Baker's debut story must have been for viewers still reeling from the tautly-plotted gun-fest of The Caves Of Androzani. Doctor Who didn't so much make an unexpected detour as smash through its neighbour's fence in a four-parter touched by madness throughout. Perhaps it was appropriate, given the Doctor's volatile regeneration, that The Twin Dilemma wound up a patchwork quilt of a tale, as varied as the colours on his notorious coat! When the Time Lord wasn't trying to kill companion Peri or shop her to the birdmen in tunics - who, as it turned out, worked for malevolent slugs - he attempted to babysit two maths prodigies, who were twins with speech impediments. The most noteworthy aspect of the drippy drama was Pirates Of The Caribbean star Kevin R McNally, in an early role as young star copper Hugo Lang, last seen helping the citizens of Jaconda mop up the slime in the aftermath of glutinous baddie Mestor's reign of terror. Davy Jones had nothing on this furious, gesticulating mollusc!
