10 Times Star Trek Reused Footage And Hoped You Wouldn't Notice

4. Topside Assault On The Defiant - The Search Pt. 1/Call To Arms

This is one of the more clever reuses of footage. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine tried in many ways to be bigger than what had come, on television at least, before. The Dominion were introduced early on, though only truly made their first appearance in the second-season finale. In the third-season opener, they came in force. The Search Part 1 gives the show the USS Defiant, though it also shows how quickly it is overcome by the Jem'hadar.

This attack from above cripples the vessel, leading to its crew being captured, bar Major Kira and Odo. It was an exciting scene, one that would make another appearance. However, and this is where simplicity meets ingenuity - the shot is flipped.

In Call To Arms, which has of course already appeared on this list, the Defiant is tasked with mining the entrance to the Wormhole. While it works, it is set upon by the Jem'hadar - who fire on them from above. Well, it had proven successful in the past after all. However, the shot is mirrored, which makes it look brand new, while still managing to save on the budget.

The fifth season of Deep Space Nine went out on an extremely dramatic high, with everything being thrown at the screen. If reusing shots helped them to save some pennies, then so be it.
