When it comes to having a strict moral code, Ron Swanson and Captain Raymond Holt have comparable Olympic levels of inflexibility. It drives everyone around them insane, but those codes are a huge part of the reason why their friends and families love them so much.

Holt fought his way up through the ranks of the NYPD, facing prejudice for being both Black and gay. But he persevered, finally reaching the rank of captain and eventually his own command in the 99th Precinct in Brooklyn. That's where he ran up against Jake Peralta, a relationship that went from adversarial to parental.

Ron believes love is love, so much so that he was the best man at the wedding of his hair stylist Typhoon to Craig Middlebrooks. He's a big fan of weddings and the expression of romantic love it represents. Holt and his husband Kevin are the exact rigid, joyless people Ron would enjoy spending time with.
