10 TV Shows That Were Unexpectedly Resurrected
1. Twin Peaks
Twin Peaks is an American serial drama, created by Mark Frost and David Lynch, following an FBI investigation into the murder of a homecoming queen in the fictional town of Twin Peaks, Washington. Since its initial broadcast in 1990, the show has gone on to be regarded as one of the best of all time, with fans and critics praising it for its surreal aesthetic and frequently haunting tone.
Despite this praise, the show was less popular during its original broadcast, with declining ratings during the second season resulting in the show's cancellation. In the more than two decades since there were numerous discussions about rebooting or resurrecting the show, but few fans were interested unless it was written and helmed by Frost and Lynch. This seemed especially unlikely given David Lynch's wildly successful directorial career with projects like Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive.
Yet in 2014 it was announced that Twin Peaks was finally going to return, written by the original two and directed by David Lynch. A further spanner was thrown in the works, however, when Lynch stepped away from directing the project, claiming he was unable to achieve sufficient funding.
Thankfully, this issue was worked out behind the scenes and Lynch again agreed to direct, with the show expected to air in 2017.
