Every movie and TV studio wants a slice of that tasty shared universe pie these days, but one property that even the most open-minded viewer probably wouldn't expect to get the MCU treatment... is Gossip Girl. And yet, that's exactly what's happening.

First described as a "reboot" when HBO Max initially ordered ten episodes, this new show has since been likened to a Marvel-style extension of the original Gossip Girl series, with creator Joshua Safran saying "I think of it like the Marvel universe. It's not a continuation or a sequel. It truly just is looking at a different angle."

Safran went on to explain that Gossip Girl 2.0 will maintain canon with the original show, following a different group of characters at the exact same school.

So basically... it's a spinoff then.

Whatever word people use to describe it, the series is set to hit HBO Max later this year, after being delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
