11 Best Doctor Who Moments Of 2013

3. All The Multiple Doctor Interactions

Before The Day of The Doctor premiered, fans were hyped in anticipation for the special especially knowing it would feature the combined heroics of Matt Smith's 11th Doctor with David Tennant's 10th Doctor and the newly established "War Doctor" played by John Hurt that would likely reveal new information on The Time War. It's easy to say that all of The Day of The Doctor could be one giant incredible moment of Doctor Who in 2013 but what stands out as the most enjoyable moment is all the interactions and banter between three distinct incarnations of the Doctor. The Day of The Doctor was the first time since the series revival in 2005 that featured a meeting between two revival series Doctors. Aside from the brief 5th Doctor-10th Doctor webisode adventure "Time Crash" which was also penned by Moffat, there hadn't been any large scale Multi-Doctor team ups until the 50th Anniversary hit. Multi-Doctor adventures have always been known for the clever squabbling between different incarnations of the Doctor, as famously seen with the 2nd and 3rd Doctor in the first Multi-Doctor story "The Three Doctors". Surely enough, The Day of The Doctor didn't fail to create some brilliant moments between all three Doctors featured in the special. Seeing The 10th Doctor wearing the 11th Doctor's fezz and the War Doctor calling out the 11th Doctor for using phrases like "timey wimey" and the 10th Doctor feigning ignorance over such phrases made for hilarious and instant classic moments. The three Doctors talking to each other also helped re-define each of their personas, such as the 11th Doctor clearly having moved on from the guilt of the Time War in contrast to the 10th Doctor's ever present guilt. Many of the War Doctor's jibes at this future selves were also fun references to real life criticisms of the 2005 revival series such as the Doctor being played by more attractive actors and the recent habit of pointing their sonic screwdrivers as if they were weapons. When the 10th and 11th Doctor, after living out centuries of shame, comforted the War Doctor and chose to relive destroying Gallifrey so the War Doctor wouldn't carry the burden alone, it was a very poignant moment that identified the compassion present in every version of the Doctor. Of course, the three Doctors eventually realize that they can re-write the outcome of the Time War and put Gallifrey in a pocket universe to avoid destruction. It was great to have two popular Doctors like the 10th and 11th team up and it was an unexpected treat to have John Hurt playing a new Doctor that worked surprisingly well. It may sometime before we have another Multi-Doctor team up like the one we had in The Day of The Doctor but that's all right because there is plenty of great material worth re-watching.
