11 Best Doctor Who Moments Of 2013

2. "Gallifrey Falls...No More"

There are so many incredible moments from The Day of The Doctor that will rank high in Doctor Who fandom for years to come but aside from the Multi-Doctor interactions, none of them match up to the power of the 11th Doctor's conversation with a mysterious museum curator who just so happens to be played by "Holy-Christ-they actually got him?!" Tom Baker. Famously portraying the longest running Doctor ever; the 4th Doctor, Tom Baker makes a cameo at the end of The Day of The Doctor as the Curator, who may actually be a distant future incarnation of the Doctor himself. If the Curator is in fact meant to be a future Doctor then it's implied that someday the Doctor will have a better grasp on regeneration and be able to revisit "Old favorite" faces. The Curator reveals the painting of Gallifrey that the 11th Doctor had been looking at isn't titled "Gallifrey Falls" or "No More", the real title is actually a combination of the two, "Gallifrey Falls...No More". After eight years of being the Last of the Timelords, the Doctor learns from what may be very well be his future self, that the home he thought he had destroyed was now out there waiting for him to find it. This sets in up the myth arc for Series 8 and opened numerous possibilities now that Gallifrey and all the Time Lords especially The Master were back. As of The Time of The Doctor, Gallifrey has yet to make an official return but all the developments set in motion all point towards Gallifrey's inevitable return to the universe. The moment the 11th Doctor heard Tom Baker's distinct baritone voice off screen the audience knew they were in for a rare treat that only something as monumental as The Day of The Doctor could provide. While the combined efforts of 13 different Doctors locking Gallifrey in a pocket universe may have been the action that saved it, the encounter between the 11th Doctor and Curator is the confirmation that yes, the gamble worked and Gallifrey is alive. Tom Baker was gracious enough to return for a Doctor Who Anniversary (this time) and the scene is a wonderful moment between the Doctors of now and then that set up the limitless possibilities for the years ahead.
