12 Hit US TV Shows You Never Knew Doctor Who Actors Were In
8. Penny Dreadful
Showtime's Penny Dreadful was billed as "the next best thing" when it premiered to critical acclaim last year. Created by John Logan, writer of such Academy Award nominated films as Gladiator and The Aviator, and executive produced by American Beauty and Skyfall director Sam Mendes, the psychological thriller was seemingly destined for greatness with a coveted cast ensemble of sensational stars including none other than Doctor Who's very own Billie Piper herself. The popular Rose Tyler actress plays Irish immigrant Brona Croft in the hit horror, a prostitute (not to be confused with that other prostitute Billie played in Secret Diary of a Call Girl!) who moved to Victorian London to escape her dark and sordid past. She got up to all kinds of shenanigans throughout Season 1 and her persistent promiscuity looks set to continue in the next season which premieres on 3rd May. Don't be fooled by her beautiful appearance, though, because shes actually riddled with tuberculosis. Nobody's perfect.
